Chinese painting has a long history of more than two thousand years. In the ancient times, paintings were made for the accompaniment of burial, or for the purpose of worshiping the ancestors. It thus carried the content and character of precept, or the function of recording images. Some of the paintings were used for decoration and they could be classified into two categories: one is mural painting, and the other is, independent painting without relying on the wall.
